Jurassic Park

5/5 Stars

Ancient DNA. Dinosaurs. A man with a terribly naïve vision. What could possibly go wrong?

Jurassic Park has been on my to-read list for a very long time, and I’m mad at myself for how long it took me to finally get around to reading it!

The movies are quite entertaining, but the book is excellent.

I was impressed by the amount of research that clearly went in to the book, which helped it feel more like realistic fiction than anything else. The characters were well developed enough that the reader had feelings one way or another when a character didn’t make it to the end of the book. There were enough differences between the book and the film that I remained on the edge of my seat the majority of the time (it also didn’t hurt that it’s been a very long time since I’ve seen the movie).

The world building was excellent and the descriptions helped transport me to the world of Jurassic Park.

I will definitely be reading more of Crichton’s works and would recommend Jurassic Park if you 1) enjoyed the movie or 2) enjoy realistic fiction, action, and nerve-wracking situations.
