BFG

by Roald Dahl
5/5 Stars

Once upon a time, I had read a Roald Dahl novel, but I didn’t remember anything about it. Well, lately I’ve been on a “let’s read all the books I don’t remember or didn’t get around to reading when I was younger” kick, and I have to say, if you haven’t picked up BFG yet, you absolutely must, I don’t care if you’re 9 or 90.

As a caveat, I listened to the audiobook, which was absolutely delightful with the use of sound effects and voices for the various characters. The use of language was amazing throughout the entire book. The giant’s misuse of vocabulary and/or completely made up words invoked a feeling of understanding EXACTLY what the giant was feeling, despite his inability to express it through proper English.

I found the use of language and the actions of the characters thought provoking for the adult reader (i.e. why we get mad when others treat us a way we accept from those closest to us), but these moral dilemmas were presented using a fun story line.

This was a quick read/listen and immensely enjoyable.
