The Santa Suit

*sigh*

This is the first one of these that I’ve done! I couldn’t finish this book…about 20% of the way in (what I typically give to a book to grab me and interest me) I was unbelievably annoyed by all of the characters.

The Santa Suit follows Ivy Perkins as she embarks on a new life post-divorce. During her pursuit to start fresh, she buys a fixer-upper and discovers a lot about the previous owners during her endeavor. The previous owners were known for their Christmas spirit, and Ivy discovers a Santa suit with a note from a little girl tucked inside asking for her father’s safe return from the war. Curious, Ivy tries to follow up with the family to learn the fate of the girl’s father.

The premise sounded cute, almost Hallmark movie-ish, and light-hearted, so I was excited to start an easy read.

Unfortunately, the female character was just rude and lacked common sense, which was used as a device to keep the story moving than an actual character trait. The male character went from being abrasive to overly helpful literally overnight, which wasn’t terribly believable.

The dilemma in the story – finding a note from a little girl asking for her father’s safe return – was interesting enough, but it was a little weird to me how fixated on it the main character became. All in all, I didn’t really enjoy the style of the way this book was written or the way the characters were presented.

In all fairness to the author, I did try this as an audiobook, so it’s quite possible the audiobook narration resulted in some of my issues with the book. As Christmas comes closer and I put some time between me and this attempt at reading this book, I will likely give it another try, but as an e-book the next time around!
