The Titan’s Curse

by Rick Riordan

4/5 Stars

Even as an adult, these books keep me on the edge of my seat!

In this installment, Percy, Grover, Thalia and two of Artemis’s Hunters embark on a quest to rescue Artemis and Annabeth from a mysterious General. As the friends follow various leads across the country, the ominous prophecy provided by the Oracle quickly comes to pass.

The Titan’s Curse was somewhat predictable based on the characters involved in the quest this time around, but that didn’t dissuade me from picking up this book any chance I had. There’s adventure, humor, betray and oh, a couple of plot twists along the way.

This installment definitely starts alluding to teenage romance, but is very much in line with what I would expect a 14 year old boy grappling with when he has his first crush. If you’re familiar with the progression of the Harry Potter series, this was very reminiscent to the 3rd book in that series as well. While the jokes were still present, there was very much a more adult/somber/serious tone to this plot than the first two novels in the series.

If you’ve enjoyed the previous books, the climax of this book wasn’t quite as good as the others, but I get the feeling this book is the setup for the rest of the series.

I cannot wait to read the next one and I’m mad at myself for waiting for so long to read these!
