The Lightning Thief

By Rick Riordan

4/5 Stars

I first read The Lightning Thief when I was in middle school. It was an enjoyable read for me then, but with Disney+ coming out with the TV series based on the book, I decided to re-read it as an adult.

To start, Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Lightning Thief follows the story of Percy Jackson on his quest to discover who stole Zeus’s Lightning bolt.

Even as an adult, this book was highly entertaining! Since it’s written for middle-school-aged kids, it’s a fairly quick and easy read, but it still manages to capture the attention and imagination of all ages. The imagery and depictions of the gods in everyday life is interesting, humorous, and spot on.

There’s humor sprinkled throughout the book, and the three main characters are all relatable. None of them are perfect heroes – they’re all incredibly human (even the satyr).

No matter if you’re 10 or 100, I’d recommend this book if you’re looking for something interesting, entertaining, and easy to read.
