Since I’m assuming the majority of us are familiar with the general premise of the story “Beauty and the Beast” I’m just going to jump right in to my thoughts of this re-telling. If you’re not familiar with it, here’s the gist: Spoiled brat prince is turned into a beast by a fairy/witch and has a set amount of time to break the spell by having a woman fall in love with his character/personality or else he’ll die or stay that way forever (depends on what re-telling as to which fate will befall the beast should he not achieve this).
This retelling was actually very enjoyable! Princess Anastasia (Ana for short) is a very likeable character. She was very relatable to me personally. She is so much more strong and honest and straightforward than we typically see in princess-type characters. Ana calls it how she sees it and isn’t afraid to stick up for herself. Despite being a short read, her character development is very evident and well done.
Some areas of the plot felt a smidge rushed, but I understand Savage likely rushed the plot in some areas since there’s really no unique way to say “and the princess ended up in the castle with the beast”.
The twist on Beast’s character was pretty cool too – instead of some bear-like, furry creature, he transforms into a dragon. His character is less dimensional than Ana, but definitely the kind of character you’d expect a woman like Ana to fall for.
Overall, it’s an enjoyable, quick read if you’re looking for something familiar but with new characters.
