3/5 Stars
The plot of this book is very intriguing – a woman buries her murdered husband and sees him on a video camera soon after his funeral.
Overall, it was an entertaining-enough book for me to revisit throughout the course of the week it took me to read. It was a quick read all said and done, but it didn’t capture my attention like other books I’ve read. I love the feeling of wanting to do nothing but sit and read a book and having a book transport you to a place where you actually forget you’re reading – this book didn’t do that for me.
The ending was definitely a surprise, and I did enjoy how Christie-esque the wrap-up was, so definitely a plus there.
However, at times this book felt a little lecture-y and the writing stayed hung up on some political statement Coben was trying to beat into the reader’s head. It felt so exhausting because it never became part of the actual plot – it was just a mini-rant that appeared every now and then in the book that ended up distracting heavily (for me) from the main plot line of the book.
All in all, an entertaining enough read. If you’re looking for a casual, easy/quick read with a surprise ending, this would be a decent pick.
Unfortunately, I don’t think this will go on my list of mysteries/thrillers to read again. It just wasn’t thrilling enough to feel the need to relive it.
