To Have or to Hoax

“He knew that she knew. Or rather, he knew that she knew that he knew. It was enough to give any man a headache, truly.”

To Have and to Hoax is predictably loveable and entertaining. The storyline is essentially written out in the summary of the book, and it naturally follows the stereotypical “man and woman argue because man and woman are in love” trope.

Yet, despite it’s predictability plot-wise, it’s a fun and entertaining novel. The wit and sarcasm presented by all of the main characters is tastefully done and not over-the-top. A lot of Violet’s reactions are reactions I myself would have.

At the beginning, the book was somewhat frustrating in the sense of “WHY WON’T THEY JUST TALK TO EACH OTHER LIKE ADULTS”, but this frustration eases as more and more peripheral characters repeat the sentiments of the reader directly to the couple in question.

When I found this book, I was looking for something light-hearted and funny, and what I found was something light-hearted, funny, witty, sarcastic, and thoroughly entertaining. I plan to continue this series, and will likely revisit this in the future when I need something to cleanse the reading palette.
